3rd Place 2024 World Cup Overall for Filippo Colombo

The Grande Finale of the 2024 World Cup in Mont-Saint-Anne secured Filippo Colombo a remarkable 3rd place overall with Nino Schurter right behind in 4th. On top, the two SCOTT-SRAM protagonists and Andri Frischknecht finished the season as the second best Men’s Elite team, behind Team Cannondale and ahead of Team Specialized.

Mont-Saint-Anne. October 6th. It’s fair to say that after such a long season it was all about who still had the legs and head to race in October.

In the XCC, the SCOTT-SRAM riders were not quite ready, but knew it would take a last big push in the XCO to finish off the season in style. While Nino Schurter managed to have a good start both Filippo Colombo and Andri Frischknecht got tangled up in the bunch.

Luckily the classic Mont-Saint-Anne race track was equally challenging, technical and physically demanding. This left options to move up positions. And this is exactly what Filippo Colombo did in an impressive way. He moved up all the way to 4th. Unfortunately the Top 3 positions were already out of reach with the World Champion Alan Hatherly, and the two French riders Victor Koretzky and Mathis Azzaro dominating the front of the race.

The Swiss Champion saved his 3rd overall by finishing in 7th.

In the final two laps Filippo faced some strong competition in his group. Most likely the effort it took to make it to the front also paid its toll. He had to let go of a podium spot in the last half lap but made it to the finish in a good 7th place, enough to secure his podium spot in the UCI World Series Overall. Stepping on a World Cup podium sure indicates consistency on a high level. The 26-year-old Swiss has proven this in an impressive way. The missing World Cup win will hopefully just be a matter of time. Filippo has a bright future ahead!

Nino Schurter 4th place Overall

For someone who has 9 World Cup Overall titles to his count, an overall 4th place might not look too impressive at first. Considering Nino has had a season with ups and downs, it’s with much appreciation that the GOAT can still stay in the top ranks at the age of 38.

In Mont-Saint-Anne he had a consistent race by playing his cards just right. At the end he was just one down behind Filippo in 8th. This solid result secured him a fine 4th place overall ending.

Now the question is what this season does with Nino’s future plans. The whole mountain bike world is wondering what’s next for the GOAT!

Andri Frischknecht

Andri keeps fighting from his starting position further back in the pack, yet he’s learned how to make the best out of a miserable first lap.
This was no different on a track he calls his favorite. The 9th place at World Championship here in Mont-Saint-Anne is one of his career highlights. With good pacing he moved up in the ranks the longer the race lasted. It was a good 25th place at the end, respectively 32nd in the overall. As the top 3 athletes count for the Men’s team ranking, Andri also has his share of securing the 2nd place in the team ranking.

Kate Courtney

Similar to the prior weekend in Lake Placid, Kate showed a solid performance in both the XCC and XCO. That snap it takes to move into the top 10 was not quite there. She finished the race in 16th place in good spirits. The consistency over the whole 2024 season resulted in a good 13th overall.

The athletes and staff of the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team are headed to some well deserved vacation now. Loading up the batteries and making plans for the next round in 2025.
